Florida Boy Makes New Friend!
Recently Lynn, Joshua, Charlie and I went to a nearby beach ....
Seeing the delight in Joshua's eyes as he explored many wonders of the sea....was truly a joy.
Especially as he made a new friend....a Grey Heron....
I do believe the Grey Heron had 'fun' as he eyed Joshua...and Joshua began a little routine with him....the heron would do something....and Joshua would respond....then it is as if the heron said 'now it is your turn'.....then the heron would respond....
the most amazing thing of all.....neither child nor bird were afraid of each other....it is as if they spoke the same language but only to each other.....
I thought I would get one picture of the two together but their game lasted much longer than expected.....
With a 'fraaank, fraaank'
to Joshua, the majestic grey heron, with a sense of humor,
said good-bye to his friend and descended into the blue.....
We had experienced a breathtaking moment in time...
The Grey Heron is a large bird, standing 1 m tall, and it has a 1.5 m wingspan. Its plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below. It has a powerful yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow flight, with its neck retracted. This is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which extend their necks.
The call is a loud croaking "fraaank".
